The Senate passed legislation Monday to end the record-long federal shutdown, with eight Democrats joining Republicans to break the logjam. The House, which has been out of town since Sept. 19 in an unscheduled recess, could vote on the Senate deal as soon as Wednesday. Speaker Mike Johnson held a conference call with members Monday morning and laid out the potential timetable for this week, according to multiple sources on the call. He said the first order of business would be swearing in Democratic Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva, who won her special election on Sept. 23, and then a rule for the Senate deal, followed by final passage of the package. Then the House would leave for its next scheduled recess.
